Dog of the Month: Meet Mylo!

What breed is Mylo and does he have any nicknames? (@cavachonmylo) Mylo is a Cavachon, a crossbreed between a Bichon Frise x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We love his breed because we get the best of both worlds – the cuddliness of the CKC and the wild energy of the Bichon.

I don’t think we could call ourselves true dog owners if we didn’t have a million nicknames for him! We call him Smylo (when he has his tongue out because he looks like he’s smiling!). There’s also Moo, Bear, Mylobear, Puppa, the list goes on!

What’s a ‘day in the life of Mylo’ like? Pre-pandemic, an average day for Mylo would be taking the train to and from San Francisco with me and sleeping under my desk while I work. A few days a week, he would visit a kickboxing gym with his grandma and run around while the patrons work out. He was a celebrity at the gym!

Nowadays, the little guy gets so much attention. We take him on longer walks and do training sessions in the grass. If the weather is nice, a game of fetch with his favorite tennis ball is a must. Other than that, he loves to sleep all day.

Where is Mylo’s favorite spot to enjoy a Barkley’s Bag bone? If Mylo could have his way, he would run away with the bone and take it to the living room where he chews all of his treats. We usually give him the bones either outside or on a chew mat in the kitchen to be sanitary.

Who are some of your favorite Instagram dogs to follow? Woof. This is a tough one!

@littlecooperbear – fun fact, he was my coworker! (our moms sat next to each other at work at a dog friendly company)

@thatdogspotphoto – Jess is a talented dog photographer and her pups Pippi and Alfie are pro models. She gives the best photography advice!

@wat.ki – two Golden Retriever brothers?! I mean ????

@nugget_thecockapoo – this teddy bear lives with ALPACAS!

What are some of Mylo’s favorite pup-friendly spots in the Bay Area?

Fort Funston – off leash dog beach in San Francisco. So much room to run and the dogs and their owners are always friendly.

Crissy Field – Another dog beach in San Francisco where you get a lovely view of the Golden Gate Bridge

Hapa Brewery – A local San Jose favorite brewery of ours. Mylo had his last birthday here where we invited all of his dog friends!

Fieldwork Brewery – Good beer, cute pups. This brewery is trendy with converted shipping containers for seating and fairy lights for a chill night out.

Mori Point – Dog friendly hiking trail with AMAZING views of the ocean.

Tips & tricks for keeping Mylo’s fur looking so clean and white? Mylo loves hiking and going to the beach… which is a total nightmare when your fur is white and fluffy! He sees his amazing groomer, Liz (shoutout to @wilddoggrooming) about every 2-3 months for a full groom. In between appointments, we bathe him at home and brush his fur to avoid matting.

Tips for brushing: if your pup is fussy, do it when they’re sleepy or place them on a table and brush them while rewarding with treats.

Mylo’s favorite napping spot? He has been a lapdog and cuddler since he was a pup. He will always try to nap in between two people or between a person and a couch. A covered crate is also a personal favorite of his!

If you could describe Mylo in 3 words what would they be?

Best. Dog. Ever.
