On the Road: Lake Tahoe, CA

We’re back on the road and headed up the mountain to Lake Tahoe! Tahoe sits on the California-Nevada border, and there’s more to it than its famous blue waters. Whichever shore you choose to visit, exciting outdoor adventure awaits you and your pup!

Here are some of our favorite ways to take advantage of the long summer days in Lake Tahoe!

Hikes

Tahoe Keyes Loop

This trail is more of a walk than a hike, but it’s a fantastic way to start the day with the whole family! Just under a mile and a half loop, this trail has lake access, paved trails and is open to leashed dogs year round.

High Meadows to Cold Creek Trail

An uphill battle at the start, but the sights are spectacular. The wild flower meadow at the peak is a great spot for a picnic lunch before making our way back down. The trail is a 7 mile loop with some rocky parts, so be prepared for one tired pooch.

Stanford Rock

For our furry friends and humans looking for a challenge, the Stanford Rock Trail is for you! A 10.6 mile loop and 2,000 ft elevation makes it all worth it for the views at the top. Don’t forget to pack a leash, water and a snack, as this one is a long haul!

Beaches

Kiva Beach

Kiva Beach is a hidden gem on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore. It can be slightly difficult to find, but it’s worth the effort. The visitors center has free parking, restrooms and picnic tables located just a short walk from the beach. Dogs are permitted to swim off-leash, but are required to be leashed on the beach.

Kings Beach

Staying up north? Visit Coon Street Dog Beach! Down on the east end of Kings Beach is a pupper’s paradise. This off-leash spot is the perfect place to let your four legged friends swim and sunbathe.

Outdoor Dining

California Burger

This burger oasis is located in the heart of Heavenly Village on the South Shore. Open for dine-in or take-out, the patio is dog-friendly and a great place to spend a summer evening. Shop around, have a bite and unwind!

Jake’s on the Lake

Experience their ‘mountain aloha’ hospitality and soak in. the picturesque views at Lake Tahoe’s ultimate waterfront dining experience. Their dog-friendly patio is the perfect sunset dinner spot for the whole family.

Happy road tripping!
